Frozen food has good prospects in millennial times
In the millennial compilation era people are required to do work that must be fast with limited time, then frozen processed foods can be the first choice. They need food that is fast-paced, practical, economical but meets nutritional and health needs.
Chairman of the Indonesian Food and Beverage Entrepreneurs Association (Gapmmi) Adhi Lukman answered that the potential of this frozen food is very large in the future. "The good prospects in the frozen food industry are in line with the development of the food and beverage industry which is increasing," said Adhi in a media release received by Kontan.co.id, Wednesday (2/14).
This good prospect for the frozen food industry is based on lifestyle changes in today's society where they need foods, which are easy to carry everywhere and are ready to be prepared at any time.
In general, the growth of the food and beverage industry last year was 8.6% and this year it is estimated to reach 9% more. The position of the food and beverage industry to non-oil and gas sector GDP reached 35% more last year and will continue to improve.
Related to the 2015-2035 Development Plan, the food industry is one of the 10 mainstay sectors. The good prospect of the food and beverage industry is also supported by the government which targets to attract as many as 20 million foreign tourists.
As a businessman engaged in the field of frozen seafood, PT Kelola Mina Laut (KML) Food Director Mohammad Nadjikh, said the development of seafood, especially frozen food, is still very potential. "Because Indonesia is a maritime country with the longest two beaches in the world, with a variety of tropical fish," he explained in a media release received by Kontan.co.id, Wednesday (2/14).
Nadjikh added, based on data from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), the volume of sea catches in the first semester of 2017 alone reached 3.35 million tons, up 11.3% compared to the same period the previous year which was 3.01 million tons. This type of sea catch is: shrimp, fish, small crab, crab and squid.
There is a large potential of these sea catches that have not been processed into products that should be added. Meanwhile, Nadjikh said, if they do seafood innovation then it will have added value.
This good prospect for the frozen food industry has caused KML Food itself starting this year to increase sales of its products in the country, to 35% from the previous position of 15%. During this time KML Food exports reached 85% and 15% for domestic sales.
